An apprenticeship is a real job where you get paid whilst you learn and gain the skills and experience in your chosen field. An apprenticeship takes between 1-6 years depending on the area and level you choose and on your previous experience. Find out more about how to become an apprentice, what apprenticeships are available, which employers offer them and information about starting your apprenticeship here.
Become an apprenticeTo become an apprentice, you must:
- be 16 or over
- not already in full-time education
- live in England
You can start an apprenticeship if you are at the start of your career, you want to change and try something new or you want to upskill in your current job. Different apprenticeships have different levels and you can start an apprenticeship at any level but if you think you need more skills or qualifications you could look at a traineeship first.
